anyone have any clue who to watch in the u-8 division? I have a 7 yr old who is interested in joining a team and would like to take him to watch a local club play. Any ideas on who has a good team at this age group?

there are so many
There are like 10 Gallagher teams and 4 or 5 Busch teams so I am trying to fond which teams are actually good. I know these clubs arent turning kids away but I am sure there is an elite team from both of these clubs and just curious who is a true select squad at this age.

Sorry for upsetting you overrath!!! Do you really have an issue with me asking who has a good team to go watch?? I am a fan of soccer and my son wants to play club soccer next year and just wanted him to see some good competitive soccer at this age. I cant believe there are actually people who have negative comments for everything. A simple question about a good u8 team and this guy is talking about "whats wrong with our developmental sytem" ??????? what a joke!! please keep you ignorant commetns to yourself overath.

The Avalon Mothers Day tournament is one of the only local tournaments to offer a U8 Boys bracket. Participation awards are given to each player.
Last year we had a great turnout in the U8 Boys.
visit www.avalonsoccer.com for more information. Thanks

Well stated and thank you. I can see that there are others out there who get it.
U-8? I can't believe others do not see a problem with this
Well then again I do believe it
The insanity continues

Sockem7,
Do you really just spend your weekends looking for the best U8 games to take in? I agree with the others, at U8, any ranking or elaborate description of a team of this age is pure folly. If the parents would just appreciate how fortunate they are to have their kids exposed to very good developmental training, they and their children would be much better off. If your question was to ask which club has the best program for the development of younger players, you would be fine.

Everyone:
just settle down.....
we are about the ONLY country on the planet where the youngest players (U8 to U10 or U12) play organized GAMES (with referees). Why?
Because everywhere else players simply develop their skills and YOU DON'T NEED GAMES to do that.....youngsters learn to dribble/shield....to be creative...to shoot ON goal (it's more fun that way)....
so: just relax and let the kids enjoy playing the beautiful game.
My suggestion to the person asking about his 7 year old son's interest: go to some games....go to a tournament.....talk with the coaches:
then pick the coach/team that stresses skills/development and will NOT teach tactics/positions at the young ages....let them play. The kids will figure it out.....

i was simply wanting to go to 1 single game and was curious what club teams in the area have a good program to join next year. Nothing more than a simple question is all it was. Nobody ever asked for your "expert" analysis on whats wrong with soccer in the states. Overrath, Paulie Walnuts and upper 90 just relax!!!! Its obvious that some programs are better than others for obvious reasons. I know that kids are kids and they are just having fun but not only do I want him to have fun I would like him to learn the game as well.

I would skip the games and go watch the training/practice sessions for the teams. Just b/c a team has 3-4 kids who are a little advanced and dominate a game, should not be an indicator for a club or team to join. Watch how the coach or trainers deal with the kids, 7-8 y'o kids can be difficult to reign in.
Your question should be more along the lines of what is the best environment for your son to develop his skills. These should be the sessions to go and watch.
Most teams have their practice information on a website, do a little digging and you can find the times and places for most teams.

Please spell my name right next time...obviously not a student of the game. I hope Jr. finds his place while you wear all the elite club gear you can find!

Who Needs "Must See TV?" - This is CLASSIC!
We're getting BIG TIME fired up here at the "U-8" level! By the time it gets to U-14, I can see a cage match. . .These past few posts are better than a Lewis Black comedy set (or Dane Cook, if you're hip like my son!)
I respect that someone wants to do what's best for his son - whether in terms of school or a sports team. What better way to determine where his son might fit in than observing competitive players / teams at his level?
One question in closing: How's my spelling and punctuation?

What are you talking about? I never said anything about wearing any club gear at all. I never once said I was even joining a club team. I am not even sure if he is ready at all but thought it would be cool to take him to watch some boys his age play. Its the negative parents like yourself the cause so many problems in youth sports PERIOD!
