Desmet was class all year. The two Gallagher boys in Hail and Berra ran the show. Also hats off to Coach Morman for leading Priory to an undefeated season and again lead by Gallagher players! Too bad next year will not feature top Gallagher boys but I guess it is what it is!

I am not sure too many of the top Gallagher guys will give up high school soccer. I predict that (1) the top MCC guys will play high school, (2) 2nd tier MCC guys may give us high school b/c they may feel they have been "wronged" for some reason by their high school coach b/c they were not treated like rock stars (3) the top public school guys will probably give up high school soccer.

Trust me - I am a Gallagher guy through and through (I worship at the altar of T. Howe, etc.) but high school soccer for many of the top players is a life-long special experience.

Here's what I think will happen with USDA players. The top players will play their freshman, sophomore and junior years with USDA and miss high school. By that time you will see the top players will have their scholarships.

With scholarships locked up, they will come back and play their senior year in high school. Some coaches will welcome them to the team and others may say no, you should have played here all 4 years.

Just my opinion. Your thoughts.

This will be a great psychological experiment. I think it will be done on an individual basis. I also think kids who have enjoyed playing hs so far will have difficulty walking away. I'm interested if as someone suggested if 8th graders will go usda until they sign, and then jump into hs. It will make hs incredibly unpredictable. All I know is that I wish it wasn't coming to this. Playing hs soccer was an awful lot of fun for me and everyone else I know who had the experience. If my kid ever gets in the situation I'm not sure what sort of advice I would give him, again it is probably case by case. The evolution of club soccer has been dramatic, and will continue to be so. Another thing that may be interesting to watch is what happens to good young hs coaches? Do they leave the field and go into club coaching? Many of our best hs coaches have just a few years left, but what about the solid young coaches? Their are some good ones out their and I wonder if the field gets dilluted if they will stay. As an educator I also wonder if this could possibly be a good thing where schools just worry about educating kids not developing them physically? This could be an incredible shift.

I would also include Prince Kabadeh to those two with 22 Goals and guess what he plays club for a independent team  He also scored the winner in OT the night before to send them to the Finals.

Please refrain from referring to any of these players are "Gallagher" players....makes me want to puke.

All good players, but there were good players from other clubs that helped each team, as well.

well if Gallagher trains them from age 8 to 18, 9 months out of the year then why not call them Gallagher players. The Prince kid is a Gallagher trained kid too. Not sure he plays SLSG now but I know he came up in the Gallagher system.

this will be interesting to see how many Gallagher kids skip but MHSSA really messed up by killing the thrill of the crowd by not only putting these games in KC but putting it at a High School field!

These games deserve St. Louis at a nice stadium. The soccer park is perfect.

MHSSA is a joke! this year at least!

That's rich. Saying these kids will forego the hs experience all because mshsaa moved the state finals for 3 years. Why dont we wait and ask the kids from Desmet and Priory if they feel cheated by having won titles in Blue Springs instead of Fenton? Do people really feel like the Soccer Park is a state of the art facility today?

New Look

Postby John Smith Jr. » Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:09 am

Was in KC. I am pretty sure that the kids did not care a bit, as they won in front of their family and friends. There were some additional benefits for kids and family from "road trip" atmosphere. There was nothing to complain about in regard to the field/facilities.

The downside was that the local KC fans did not support the event in terms of attendance.

At the end of the day, the kids would have probably enjoyed a game in St. Louis more, but they were generally oblivious to the issue and had a memorable experience...end of story.

Back to the same USDA vs HS again. I will say it again, it is an individual decision to be made by only those few kids involved. If my kid were in that position, I'd make sure he had as much information about the positives and negatives for each side and then let him make the decision. How are these kids going to learn to make the real decisions in their life if they can't make a simple soccer decision in high school. Look at this as a life lesson and a learning experience. Neither decision can possibly be wrong, as a lesson can be learned by going either direction.

Bottom line, my loyalty lies with teaching my kid to be an adult and not with some youth soccer club or high school sports program.

George I am going to have to call you out on this. Prince Kabadeh came to St.Louis in 7th grade. I know this cause he was in my daughters class at St.Joan of Arc, Then played for IMO'S Coached by Terry Pimmel. In 8th grade he went back to his hometown. Came back to St.Louis Freshman year and until this day I think he still plays for Imos. I know he did not come up through the Gallager system. Also Joe Rund(has started at SLUH since Freshman year) was also in my daughters class and also played for IMO'S for years until last season he went to SLSG

Hey guess what? The coaches who went to Blue Springs for the final 4 thought it was a great experience for their kids. If you dont believe me, ask them. IF the coaches thought the change in venue was a success this situation is not going to change.

I was there and I thought it was terrible! my kid won in front of 50 people instead of 3000 as in the past. they even split the venues up so they weren't all at the spot!

I watched the final on the internet feed via FS Midwest.

The sidelines of the football field were right up against a track. The corner kicks were virtually on the track.

The football field markings were real memorable.

I saw two groups of fans on those huge bleachers that were 80% empty. Maybe a few hundred total.

You wouldn't have the girls softball State Championship played on a baseball field with the bases moved in and the mound in the middle of the infield with a temp fence just behind the infield dirt. Why play a State Championship soccer game on a football field? Rockhurst Univ. not available? UMKC not available? The kids don't care and the coaches say they don't care but it shows the second class mentality that MSHSAA has for the sport of soccer. Anyone who's ever talked to Kevin Gardner will tell you he's a doofus.

Coaches and players didn't mind. They didn't play the football lines. The track and turf are on the same level, still very easy to hit a quality serve. (Not like the old CBC curb.) They didn't have it at UMKC or any of those other venues because they didn't put in a bid. Blue Springs gave MSHSAA a great deal, the players were treated well, the stadium could handle the crowd. If Rockhurst would have been in the final it would have been packed, but they got eliminated. The basic soccer argument you have all put out there revolves around more old men watching the game, real grass, and no football lines. Kids and coaches have moved on. Moving in the bases completely changes a baseball game. Turf does not. Kids play on it all the time. Priory has a home field with grass, won the title. Desmet has a home field with turf, won the title. WHy? They were the best teams. I would also point out that on a number of occassions because of rain the state finals were played on the awful turf of the soccer park.
The games were good ones. STL teams fared well, said they were treated well, not sure what the problem is? Some fans hated watching it on the internet?
