Congrats Lori, you are a great inspiration to a lot of local girls. Good Luck.
CHICAGO (AP) -- Forward Kristine Lilly and goalie Brianna Scurry were among 18 players chosen Wednesday to play for the U.S. women's national team in the Women's World Cup that begins in two months.
Coach Greg Ryan will select the final three players in the next few weeks to complete the 21-player squad. The World Cup will be held in five Chinese cities from Sept. 10-30; the Americans open against North Korea on Sept. 11 in Chengdu.
Lilly, 35, made the World Cup team for a record fifth time. She is the only player still active from the U.S. team that won the inaugural Women's World Cup in 1991. Scurry will be playing on her fourth World Cup team. Defenders Kate Markgraf and Christie Rampone made the team for the third time.
Also selected were goalie Nicole Barnhart, Shannon Boxx, Lori Chalupny, Marci Jobson, Tina Ellertson, Carli Lloyd, Stephanie Lopez, Heather O'Reilly, Leslie Osborne, Hope Solo, Lindsay Tarpley, Aly Wagner, Abby Wambach and Cat Whitehill. Ten players will be participating in their first World Cup.
"We named the 18 now because we've been in Residency Camp two years in a row; we've spent two years together; and we know these players inside out," said Ryan, who will be coaching in his first Women's World Cup. "We want to remove the stress from trying out and just say 'you guys are the ones; you're in, let's get after it.'

St. Louisan and U.S. midfielder Lori Chalupny on the performance in the tournament: “For this tournament, we had a lot of younger players in the team and this was the first big championship at this level for many of us. We kept trying to get better each game and I think this was a big stepping stone for us to see hey, let’s just have confidence and know that we belong here and I think that will carry us through the next big championship.â€

I reel Lori could be one of the top 5 players on the team. Anyone else think so?

This week's STLsoccer.net Player of the Week goes to Saint Louis Athletica's hometown hero Lori Chalupny. On Thursday from the right back position, she captained the United States Women's National team to a 1-0 win over Germany in an international friendly. The match was played in Augsburg, Bavaria, in front of a 30.000 sold out crowd. The U.S. came into the match ranked first in the world, just 35 points ahead of Germany and the win by the U.S. will keep them ranked first in the FIFA world rankings.

Guten Tag!
Being in Germany brings back memories of my three years of German class at Nerinx Hall High School. Some of it is coming back to me, unfortunately most of what I learned is staying way back in the far reaches of my brain.
We are having a great time here in Munich. The hotel and playing facilities are nice, and the weather is great - not according to most here, but I actually enjoy the cold, overcast, rainy weather to play in.
On Friday, October 23, we had our first big outing around Munich. It is nice to get the chance to experience the city a little bit, and of course we always love shopping. Although Munich is only about nine miles away it took nearly two hours to get there. St. Louis has never seen traffic like in Munich. When we finally arrived we were handed a map, told to have a great time, and to meet at the Hofbräuhaus in about an hour and a half for dinner.
With our USA parkas on, cameras in one hand, and maps in the other, we probably stuck out quite a bit. It was a great experience to walk around Munich. The city has a mix of being both modern, as well as having so much history. It was fun just walking around the streets as we tried to navigate our way, hoping to find the Hofbräuhaus.
Dinner at the Hofbräuhaus was unlike anything I had ever experienced. One thing for sure is that there was a lot of beer and a lot of lederhosen. It was a fun, traditional German restaurant complete with a beer hall on the lower floor and a restaurant on the upper floor. Each floor was a huge room with rows of long tables, similar to summer camp cafeteria, and there was a stage at one end where men in lederhosen entertained the crowd. The men did a type of knee-slapping dance that you would have to see to believe. I guess that is where leather pants come in handy. Our entertainers also spread out across the room and cracked whips to the tune of the music. For dinner I went the traditional route and ordered a bratwurst, which looked something like a boiled hot dog. I also went with the potato salad and a pretzel. I think it is safe to say it was a fun night had by all.
Munich is full of all sorts of fun and excitement. Sunday we were surprised with tickets to the Bayern Munich match against Eintracht Frankfurt. As if it wasn’t enough just to be in the stadium, we were actually given front row tickets. It was so cool to be able to watch the skill and power of those players. We were within five yards of players like; Arjen Robben, Miroslav Klose, Luca Toni, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and many more. It turned out to be a great game with Bayern Munich coming from behind to win the game 2-1 in the last minute of regulation.
Monday we have a scrimmage game against the Bayern Munich U-17 Boys squad. I think it will be a good challenge for us, and a chance to work on the things we have been simulating in practice. Wish us luck!

the following is from a Sports Illustrated article posted on the internet today. I'm sure all St. Louis soccer fans, especially fans of J B Marine, are very proud of what Lori and her team accomplished today. This article describes Lori to a T.
Grant Wahl > INSIDE OLYMPIC SOCCER
Lori Chalupny is a hell of a player. That's what I wrote in my notebook in the 60th minute of the gold-medal game. the 24-year-old left back had a marvelous Olympic tournament, even though a concussion in the opener against Norway kept her out of nearly two full matches. Chalupny just has a sense for how to play the game.
On offense, she can barrel forward down the left side, cut into the middle on the dribble and threaten the goal, as she did by scoring the U.S.' best goal of the tournament in the semis against Japan. And on defense, Chalupny is tough as nails, more than willing to put a body on an attacker and cover a lot of ground.
On a memorable night in Workers' Stadium, she was a perfect symbol of the building's name. And, in the end, so were her teammates.
