Althoff is dropping down another class this year. They shouldn't have any problems getting back to state and probably winning it all.

I still don't get how they figure all of that out. I know they go by school enrollment but Althoff has more soccer players than most of the larger schools in the Metro East.

Why should the state give Althoff a free ride to state based on enrollment? The small school's that Althoff will play might have 1 or 2 select players on their roster while Althoff will be loaded with 30-40.

That doesn't sound fair to those smaller schools. It shouldn't be based on enrollment only. I'm not sure exactly what they should do but the way it is now is a joke. Wait and see when the scores will be 12-0 against those smaller schools.

With that logic, shouldn't Belleville East move DOWN a class because of its lack of club players?

Making exceptions for one TEAM, much less one school, would completely go against the entire purpose of the system.

I don't think Columbia lost any starters from last years 2nd place finish and that was when there were only 2 classes they should have an easy time in class A

It will be very interesting as to what Belleville West brings to the table this year. They beat GC twice last year, I don't think that anyone has beat them twice in a season in a very long time. BW only lost four players from last year and I hear they have some nice incoming players as well. GC will always have strong years. Collinsville should be a much improved squad this year. Alton will be strong this year as well. Not sure about any other AAA schools.

Althoff should not have a problem at all in AA, but you can not rule out Triad and Carbondale when it comes down to the playoffs.

Not real sure about A, probably Columbia or Gibault.

What about Collinsville?? They are young but talented. I know @ least one sophmore that should make an impact, and with coach Rowden Collinsville should be a factor!

Don't have a daughter but a son, unfortunately he plays american football and lays around all spring. No other choice but to watch girls high school soccer.

It sure was a lot of fun watching the girls from Althoff make the state run!

Go Crusaders!

Good Luck CHUCK!

Let the debates begin!!!

I think Althoff will be making a return trip to state. Not even Coach Huettner can mess this team up; there's just to much talent.

As for the bigger schools there is a couple a teams to watch:

Collinsville has a freshman goalie; that has been called " ... the best goalie in the area..." just ask Scott Gallagher soccer club. With such a addition to the team this has to improve their chances.

Belleville East has a freshman coming from the Scott Gallagher soccer club that has been label "... the best freshman ever to play soccer in the state..." With all that scoring power; Coach Lasley has to be happy.

Belleville West has improved to; Coach Mathenia has recruited last years top scorer in the state. Also, he has a senior goalie with experience, so look for them to be good.

Granite City did not lose a lot a player from last years team. With Coach Briggs leadership look for Granite City to be the team to beat.

This is just my opinions on some of the teams, is there any more teams that I missed.

Who is the star freshman player that is going to Belleville East and what Scott Gallagher team does she play for? I'm curious if I know her or if she is new to the area.

I am pretty sure the freshman you are talking about is not from Belleville East, but Collinsville. She plays with the United team which is one of the top teams in the Region. Also she has been trained by her Father who was a pro soccer player.
