Using an outdated 4.4.2 formation

Postby coach education » Sun May 27, 2012 3:23 pm

How do you play against an outdated 4.4.2
When analyzing soccer games, from the youth level all the way up to high level college and MLS games, it is commonplace to observe a 4.4.2 formation where the midfield and forward lines play flat. At times, teams may use a large diamond in the midfield along with two flat forwards which can also cause various problems. As an emerging technician you will encounter this formation, how best would you shape up your team to exploit its weaknesses. Running with the ball
Is there a difference between running with the ball and dribbling with the ball? Running with the ball can be seen at the professional level as defenders run with the ball into the midfield, thus creating a numerical advantage. This session is applicable to all ages. The session also combined various types of combinations as players run with the ball from their defending third and into the middle third.
