Tom Howe Candidate for Sporting KC Trainer
from KC blogs:
Scott Gallagher Founding Member, Tom Howe is a top candidate for a lead training role at Sporting KC. Howe, the current Woodson City Rangers Director of Coaching is one of three candidates for the U14 to U17 head trainer position. Before the Rangers, Howe was the 30 year maestro of the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club Way which is an extreme passing style of play. "My style of play is very simple and looks a lot like modern day Barcelona" says Coach Howe, "I'm an Arsenal guy but like to move it (ball) more like Barca". Howe's competition ranges from the Netherlands to right in KC's own back yard (two undisclosed candidates).

Jon Parry is the local candidate and has a good resume but it's more futsal focuses vs the real game. I hear good things about Coach Howe.

Good luck Coach Howe, this is great for him. Woodson City never had a chance with Gallagher holding the Academy position and attracting all the good talent.

It would be a perfect scenario for T Howe. I wish him the best.

This would be a great move by Sporting to hire T. Howe. He is one of the top trainers around the country and he would train top players in a professional atmosphere. He would have the Sporting players playing the same way his Gallagher teams played when he coached them. It is very unfortunate that T. Howe is not a major part of SLSG boys but this could really turn out to be something very exciting for him and Sporting if they do hire him.

this is good news for sure. I was feeling bad for him over there. He is a true talent and needs top players.

Re: Tom Howe Candidate for Sporting KC Trainer
Longball, to suggest that SLSG has "all the good talent" is very narrow minded and a slap in the face to all the talented players not playing at SLSG. To suggest that a club has to have an academy to succeed is foolish. There are clubs all over the St. Louis area with differing levels of success. I guess some of that depends on what defines success. There is no doubt that SLSG has its share of talent and success, but so does Woodson City, Avalon, Lou Fusz, Bino's, JB Marine, Panathinaikos, Metro Strikers, Norco, WC St. Louis etc. etc. etc.
All that said, I would hate to see such a talent leave St. Louis soccer, but am always thrilled to see people find new levels of success!!!

T Howe would be a huge asset to any club, but especially to high school kids, where he could actually train appropriately. he has very little patience for younger ages, parents, egos, money-hungry board members and ....stupidity.
But if you are hiring him to be the technical director, then you won't find a better option in the midwest. His record, and player development, speaks for itself.

I agree with Posh except the part about T. Howe not being able to train young kids. He does a great job with training young kids, too. He coached Brad Davis and that team when they were 10 and several other younger teams at Gallagher. He does do a better job training the best players because he demands a lot from them and expects them to be able to do what he is teaching them. He currently trains the U9 and U10 Woodson City boys teams and they are very good teams and love his training.

I was laying the sarcasm on there...
I know quite well that he coaches young kids, he just tends to work better with kids who are willing to learn and have the ability to excel. I wish him the best.

Re: Tom Howe Candidate for Sporting KC Trainer
John Parry is a hated within his own youth club (Blue Valley SC) and has only every created one regionally competitive team. He does however have a pre-existing working relationship with the Sporting Head Coach. I would hate to see Sporting bring him in, and I am sure I am not alone. I would much rather see Tom brought in...

Per the Sporting KC Juniors website, Jon Parry is already the Sporting KC Juniors Director of Coaching and the U16 USSDA Head Coach. Seems like he already has a big relationship with the group

Re: Tom Howe Candidate for Sporting KC Trainer
I ask kids (all ages) who they feel is the best trainer in St Louis. Howe has a huge following of kids who say he's the best they have trained with. His high demand for perfection doesn't fit well with fragile minded kids, and parents, but if you want your kid to be a top player he is like a coach from the early days with his demanding style. To many kids getting "pampered" at home for him to liked by everybody but if I had a kid playing soccer I would want Howe training them for sure. I got news for the fragile kids. If you think he's tough kids.....wait till college. Get use to it, or you may want to find a different sport. Good luck coach.

It was the U16 boys. Yes, they move the ball very well.
Woodson City's U9 and U10 boys also do an exceptional job at moving the ball. They are both extremely talanted teams and the best in their age groups. You would enjoy watching them. Thanks for the kind words.

Re: Tom Howe Candidate for Sporting KC Trainer
at the lou fusz complex today I heard that Tommy is going for sure to KC Monday through Thursday and then come home for the weekends to coach WCR in games. Pat Mann will stay in St. Louis to train the teams Monday through Thursday. WCR will become Sporting STL and be a direct affiliate to Sporting KC.
