It is my understanding that NCAA coaches are allowed to have contact with players that reside within a certain distance from their campus. This question has come up before related to Kalish's involvement with the SLSG program.

Congratulations to the u-16 SLSG Academy. This is certainly a fine group of players who continue to impress as many of these boys were part of the run to the National Championship finals in 2009.

Am I seeing it correct in the u-18 SLSG Academy that they only dressed 11 players for their game (including 2 goalkeepers). If that is true, what an embarrassment to the program and perhaps the organization needs to be more attentive to the commitment of the players through the entire season. If players are simply going to bail at the end of the season because they have already made college commitments or have better things to do then the whole USDA program at U-18 needs to be re-thought. I hope this isn't what happened. Anyone out there shed some light on this?

The win culminated a week in Dallas for the SLSG team battling through the USSDA Playoffs. The squad, lead by Head Coach Tim Leonard and Assistant Coach Tom Bielicki, finished with a 2-0-1 record and seven points to win their bracket, also defeating San Diego Surf 2-1 and tying Solar Chelsea (from Dallas) 2-2.

"Our goal from Day One has been to make Finals Week in Houston, and our team stepped up all week and showed their true abilities," said Leonard. "It says a lot about the team's character, especially defeating the number one ranked team in the country (PDA) today."

Eight teams will take part in USSDA Finals Week, from 78 clubs across the country. Finals Week will be held July 16-23.

way to go boys! this is a major accomplishment playing vs fully funed academy teams that are affiliated with MLS teams.

Yeah, he's out there lurking. PW always waits until it is over then blames SLSG or St. Louis or whoever else his inferiority complex has him worried about no matter how good, close, or poor the result.

Quit! The U-16B team maybe but the other 5 were top teams, Sg NEVER sends a team to cup without beefing it up with players either. A lot of their U-16, 17, and 18G from the ECNL teams were there and playing for other clubs too, why didn't they send those teams?

They played in ECNL " B " level national event where only the top level teams can vie for a national title.....apparently SLSG G are content with B level development standards! They earned the right to compete among the B level Elite !

The St. Louis Scott Gallagher MO U-16 boys have advanced to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) Finals Week being held beginning next Tuesday, July 17 in Houston, TX.

The team is one of eight U-16 Academy clubs traveling to Houston, from 78 who participate in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. They earned the right to participate in Finals Week by advancing to the USSDA Playoffs held in Dallas June 26-30, and then winning their bracket by tying Solar Chelsea (Dallas, TX) and defeating San Diego Surf and Players Development Academy (Zarephath, NJ).

SLSG MO finished the regular season in first place of the Frontier Division (for the second consecutive year), with a 13-5-3 record. The squad was paced in scoring during the regular season by Tom Barlow (10 goals), Austin Panchot (9 goals), Mark Segbers (7 goals) and Nick Jones (5 goals). The defense, led by Justin Graham, Jordan Klipsch, Austin Ledbetter and Jason Pesek, led the entire USSDA while only allowing 0.62 goals per match.

USSDA Finals Week is a culmination of events for the top 8 Academy programs for the U-18 & U-16 age groups, and all expenses are provided by U.S. Soccer. Presentations on sports psychology and proper hydration will be presented, and the players will also attend a Houston Dynamo MLS match and participate in other events.

The SLSG roster includes the following players (high schools included):
Tom Barlow Chaminade College Preparatory School
Blake Gonzalez St. Louis University High School
Justin Graham St. Francis Borgia High School
Brett Hodges Francis Howell Central High School
Nick Jones Parkway South High School
Zack Kavanaugh Desmet Jesuit High School
Jordan Klipsch Oakville Senior High School
Austin Ledbetter CBC High School
Jake Leeker Rockwood Summit High School
Keegan McHugh Francis Howell High School
Stephen McMillian John Burroughs School
Sam Newman St. Louis Priory School
Austin Panchot Lafayette High School
Jason Pesek Chaminade College Preparatory School
Mark Segbers St. John Vianney High School
Curtis Shillingsford Chaminade College Preparatory School
Ed Starr Columbia (IL) High School
David Stoll Chaminade College Preparatory School
Matt Steurer St. Louis University High School

The SLSG MO Academy coaching staff consists of
Tim Leonard – Head Coach
Tom Bielicki – Assistant Coach
Tim Kelly – Goalkeeper Coach
Kevin Kalish – Technical Director

Matches will be played at the Houston Amateur Sports Park, with the exception of the Championship matches being held at the BBV Compass Stadium (new home to the Houston Dynamo). SLSG MO will play matches on the following dates and times:
Tuesday, July 17 9:00PM Field #6 vs. PA Classics
Thursday, July 19 8:00PM Field #5 vs. Crew Soccer Academy Wolves
Saturday, July 21 9:00PM Field #6 vs. DC United
Monday, July 23 TBD (based on completion of first three matches)

St. Louis Scott Gallagher MO Academy opened up US Soccer Development Academy Finals Week play on Tuesday night in Houston with a resounding 3-0 victory over the PA Classics, last year's U-16 finalist. "It was a great way to start Finals Week for our squad, and the boys truly earned the victory," commented SLSG MO Head Coach Tim Leonard. "We made a great effort to combat their formation and push numbers forward, and it paid off for us in the second half."

Though the first half was scoreless, SLSG MO had outshot PA Classics 8-2, with a 3-0 advantage of shots on goal. SLSG MO finally broke through at the 11 minute mark of the second half when Tommy Barlow converted a PK (after Austin Panchot was fouled in the penalty box) for a 1-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, Mark Segbers converted a rebound of a shot by Barlow for a 2-goal lead. Brett Hodges completed the scoring at the 36 minute mark of the second half on an 18-yard strike of a rebound as well. Jake Leeker went on to earn the shutout in goal, while the PA Classics were reduced to few offensive opportunities. "It was a total team effort on both sides of the ball," remarked Leonard. "Hopefully we can carry the momentum with us into our match on Thursday night."

SLSG MO's opponent on Thursday at 8PM, the Crew Soccer Academy Wolves (MI), tied DC United 1-1 in their opening round match, leaving SLSG MO atop the group standings with three points and a goal differential of plus-3.
