Barcelona Analysis Series

Postby coach education » Thu Jun 02, 2011 5:27 am

As journalists and other media outlets research Barcelona, it is revealed how the team uses a 4.3.3 formation and how players interchange positions in order to hold possession. Emerging technicians have a desire to dig deeper to understand the subtle nuances that make Barcelona so good. They research why players move and how this movement affects each teammate. Once this understanding is achieved, the question becomes how to translate this knowledge to your own team and players?

Emerging technicians will not only answer the question of what it is that makes Barcelona so special, but more importantly, how to impart this information to their players. Emerging technicians will have access to information that breaks down Barcelona position by position, and they will have access to training activities and progressions that will enable their players to better emulate FC Barcelona. June Monthly Coaching Session - Standing Between to Get Behind
The recent game between Spain and the United States highlights the ability of players to sit between defenders in order to get behind. Numerous times the television announcers could be heard commenting on Spain's movement and ability to sit between defenders and the lines of the United States formation. This session demonstrated how to progress activities to get players to become more patient and aware of their movement. This movement, as subtle as it may be, enables an attacker to disappear on their defender and reappear already in behind.
